Dentistry and Homeopathy
The Dental profession is becoming increasingly aware of the
indivisibility of dental health and overall health. The teeth,
the tongue, the gingiva, the lips, the salivary glands, etc,
are all integrated with the rest of the body via the nerves,
the blood and lymphatic circulation, glandular secretion,
acupuncture meridians, the connecting bones and joints and by
the digestive tube which extends from the mouth to the anus.
Because of the mechanical nature of most dental therapeutic
procedures it may occasionally be convenient to forget that
the mouth we are treating is connected to a vital, breathing,
thinking, feeling human being. Yet the profound
interrelationships between the mouth and the rest of the body
have been recognized in the scientific literature of the West
for several decades and by the Chinese for some fifty
centuries.
Perhaps less widely appreciated but, I maintain, more
frequent in occurrence are those systemic maladies which
result from oral sources, ... such as constipation of the TMJ
patient due to his impaired chewing ability, or the migraine
headache of a mercury hyper-sensitive patient provoked by a
mouthful of amalgam (50% mercury), or the abdominal rash of
the nickel-hypersensitive person that just had a nickel crown
placed on a tooth, In these cases, ironically, the patient
traditionally must seek the treatment of a physician because
of the systemic nature of illness despite their oral origins.

Dear Farid,
Homeopathy offers treatment of many acute dental related
diseases such as, dental abscesses, bleeding, teething,
toothaches, dental trauma, apprehension of dental visit, and
post operative remedies. Homeopathy also can be very useful
for the treatment of chronic dental problems such as TMJ
disorders, periodontal disease, bruxism, and tooth decay.

What is
Homeopathy?
|
| |
Homeopathy is an original method of treatment that is
effective in treating most disorders of the body. This method
is based on a pharmacological law called the "Law of Similars".
This "law" was presented to the world in 1796 by Samuel
Hahnemann, a German physician. He described it in this manner:
"Any substance that produces specific toxic symptoms in a
healthy person when given in its full strength form, will cure
a sick person with those same symptoms when given in a very
diluted, minute form." The philosophy accompanying this method
of treatment sees illness as the manifestation of a complex
defense mechanism at work in the body. This defense system was
called the Vital Force by Hahnemann. Homeopathic treatment
aims at strengthening and redirecting the vital force to
restore health safely without side-effects. |

What can
Homeopathy do for you?
|
| |
Homeopathy not only offers relief from temporary disorders but
can provide an in-depth healing of a person due to its
individual and "wholistic" approach. This type of healing
makes it easier and possible to avoid recurrence or relapses
in the future and, in this instance, homeopathy stimulates the
body's natural defense system by reestablishing normal immune
system and cell functioning. Homeopathy is effective in
treating various acute disorders as well as chronic illnesses.
All functional troubles can be helped by this type of
approach. Irreversible or degenerative conditions cannot be
completely cured by homeopathy. However, homeopathy can play
an important role in such cases by providing physical as well
as psychological support which will aid the body in defending
itself against the disease and further degeneration. The real
advantage of homeopathic medicine is that it works safely to
heal the whole body. In most cases, homeopathic and
conventional treatments are compatible and in fact, may be of
benefit when used together. In these instances, homeopathy can
be used in conjunction with other therapeutic methods either
to decrease the toxic effects or to treat the general state of
the patient. |

As many of you are aware, my journey in Biological
Dentistry has been a product and influence of my own homeopath
team Patty Smith and Rudi Verspoor and in particular my
homeopath wife Laurie Zrudlo. I am thrilled to announce that
Laurie and I will be practicing under the same roof starting
sometime in the fall of 2007. |
